For the Love of Chocolate

Updated: Feb 11, 2021

Chocolate. Oh sweet, heavenly chocolate. How I adore thee. Can you tell I am a huge fan of chocolate? There’s something about its velvety sweetness melting on my tongue, that invokes feelings of euphoria and happiness. At least it does for me and I don’t think I’m alone. Today, chocolate is enjoyed at celebrations, served in a ceremony, given as tokens of appreciation, and used to woo hearts of love. Oooh, la la!

It's been around for 4,000 years, discovered in Mexico (think Mayans) with the cacao plant. During those times, chocolate was used during rituals and used as medicine. Yes, medicine. This plant was and still is, very sacred to many. It wasn’t until the 1800’s that the cacao plant was turned into the chocolate we know and love by a little company called Cadbury but it was Milton S. Hershey who made it affordable to the masses. Thank you, Mr. Hersey!

Chocolate, more specifically dark chocolate, extols the virtues of being a powerful source of antioxidants and fights Free Radicals. It is rich in magnesium and iron and even contains prebiotic fiber that feeds your healthy gut bacteria. Dark chocolate is as healthy as it is delicious thus adding to my love of this wonderful treat.

Having diabetes my love affair with chocolate comes with moderation. However, I was elated to find I could still enjoy one of my favorite treats without the guilt of added calories and sugar in a scrumptious cup of tea! I love guilt-free!

Sterling tea has several varieties to choose from:

  • Raspberry Romance, black tea infused with chocolate and sprinkled with little cinnamon hearts. Raspberry Romance is tea full of romance and flavor.

  • Decadent, a black tea that invites you to Indulge with dark chocolate black tea and a sweet, delicate caramel finish. Enjoy a luxurious moment. (Seriously, the name says it all)

  • After Hours (caffeine-free), an organic rooibos tea with little pieces of dark chocolate and notes of golden caramel. Can you say YUM!

  • Mint Kiss (caffeine-free), another rooibos infused with chocolate and zip of mint.

All of Sterling Tea's blends infused with chocolate are a wonderful treat to be shared any time of day all without the added calories, fat, and sugar. My blood sugar is a happy camper that I can indulge in the flavor and delight of chocolate without worries that my blood sugar will shoot sky high or that my waistline will suffer. My heart sings with joy!

If you haven’t tried our chocolate-infused teas, I encourage you to give them a whirl and decide for yourself. They also make a terrific gift (Valentines Day is coming up...hint, hint, wink, wink). All this talk of chocolate has me swooning a bit so, I am going to go make a guiltless cup of chocolate with Raspberry Romance tea. I'll leave you with one of my favorite quotes by Cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, "All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt."
